SUMMARY:Defiance in the Details: practicing everyday acts of resistance to
 reclaim women's power
DESCRIPTION:In Afghanistan today\, over 20 million girls and women live und
er gender apartheid (World Bank). The Taliban has banned schooling for gir
ls past sixth grade\, leaving an estimated 2.5 million girls legally prohi
bited from attending secondary school. There are an estimated 4 million gi
rls who have been denied access to schooling in Afghanistan (UNESCO). Many
Afghan girls and women\, however\, refuse to give up. Join us for an even
ing of tea drinking\, art making\, and conversation as we come together to
celebrate small daily acts of resistance in Afghanistan and beyond. Resis
tance to gender-based violence can take many forms\, and some of the most
powerful work is in the seemingly small actions girls\, women\, and other
feminists take to create habits of defiance. We each hold the power to mak
e small steps\, for our collective whispers can crescendo into a more just
  world.
